English Sex

Either of the two main categories (male and female) into which humans and most other living things are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions.

Usage in sentence:

  • The sex refers to biological differences between males and females. 
  • In some countries, the law allows people to marry a partner of the same sex while in other countries this is not allowed. 
  • The ‘biological sex’ may be used to refer to ‘sex’, and the ‘cultural and social sex’ may be used to refer to ‘gender’.
